WHAT IS ALPHA?
The Alpha course is a relaxed and relational opportunity to explore the meaning of life. It’s a place where people of diverse backgrounds and experiences can come and ask questions, delve into issues that really matter, and look for answers together. And it’s a program offered by all the main Christian denominations throughout the world.
WHAT IS INVOLVED?
Each week of the Alpha course begins with a delicious dinner, giving people the opportunity to get to know one another in a casual atmosphere. Following the meal, we watch a DVD presentation on various intriguing aspects of the Christian faith such as “Who Is Jesus?” or ”Why and How Should I Read the Bible?” or “Why and How Do I Pray?” After each video talk, we break up into smaller groups for a time of open discussion.
WHO IS ALPHA FOR?
The Alpha course is for anyone and everyone, but in particular:
- Seekers — those who are curious about God, Jesus, the Bible, or Christianity
- Starters — those who have just begun a relationship with Jesus Christ
- Returners — those who have some previous church experience but have been away for a while
WHAT IS THE COST?
There is no charge for the Alpha course, although you will be encouraged to purchase an inexpensive workbook to enhance your learning, as well as to make a contribution toward the weekly meals.
WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
The Alpha course is offered at West Park Church during both the fall and winter/spring semesters on Thursday evenings from 6:30-9:00 pm for ten consecutive weeks. Our next course begins in September 2013.
