SALT AND LIGHT CHALLENGE

IT’S FOR YOU!
This personal commitment is for anyone who wants to make a difference with their life on their campus, with their friends, and in their families.

JESUS SAID:
You are the salt of the earth. [...] You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16)

HOW ARE WE LIKE SALT?
In biblical times, salt was used to season, preserve, and purify. Without refrigeration, salt was the only way to keep meat from rotting. As followers of Jesus, we are called to be in close contact with the world because God is working through us to “preserve” the world.

HOW ARE WE LIKE LIGHT?
A shining light is both revealing and inviting. To those lost in the dark, it shows the way back home and welcomes their return. Together as a community, WP Student Ministry is committed to being a light to our would.

SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR US?
We believe compassion ought to translate into action. This is why we gather every weekend and Wednesday to celebrate life and discover what it means to follow Jesus.  We’ll create a welcoming environment, teach understandable messages, experience great music, and have fun.

ACCEPTING THE SALT & LIGHT CHALLENGE IS A COMMITMENT TO THREE THINGS:

•  PRAYING regularly for five non-Christian friends
Pray that God would open their hearts, that He would give obvious ways for you to serve them, that they would feel comfortable and safe to ask questions.

•• SERVING them in practical ways
Look for ways you can put others first and be helpful.

••• SPEAKING UP when the time is right
When the time is right, share the right thing. You may invite a friend to the weekend service, tell them why and how you became a Christian, or share what it means to know Jesus. Talking about God is scary for just about all of us! However, when we commit to praying and serving, God will “show up” and tell us what we need to say.
